About

When you call 911 in St. Louis, Jefferson, or Franklin counties dispatchers are provided vital information such as the address, phone number, and resident's name.  This is crucial in the event a person is unable to speak.

When a 911 call is made from a wireless telephone we are given the location of the caller in latitude and longitude.  We then interface the coordinates through our CAD system to pinpoint the caller's location.

What you should do when calling

We hope you never have to call 911.  But if you do here are some tips:

- Speak clearly.  At times our dispatch center can be noisy with radios and other equipment.

- Know the location of the emergency and telephone number you are calling from.  We will verify this information even if it is provided through the 911 system.

- Be ready to help someone in need.  We may ask you to help an injured or sick person.
