South County Fire Alarm, the first alarm center of its kind in St. Louis County, was established in March of 1968 at Mehlville Station #1.  Services were provided for Affton FPD, Crestwood FPD, Fenton FPD, Gardenville FPD, Lemay FPD, Mehlville FPD, and Valley Park FPD.

By the time High Ridge FPD joined in 1973 and North Jefferson County Ambulance joined in 1976, the alarm center had moved to larger quarters at Mehlville Station #5.  At the end of 1983, Gardenville FPD merged with Affton FPD.

On January 1, 1986, South County Fire Alarm Association incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation. 

In 1989, new facilities, the Carl W. Breihan Dispatch Center was built behind Mehlville Station #7.  Dispatch services were also being provided to Shady Valley FPD and Springdale FPD.

Computer Aided Dispatch was brought online to help handle calls as volume increased with the addition of Rock Community FPD, Antonia FPD, and Rock Township Ambulance District in 1990.  In 1994, Chesterfield FPD joined South County.

In 2007 we serve Affton Fire Protection District, Crestwood Department of Fire Services, Eureka Fire Protection District, Fenton Fire Protection District, Lemay Fire Protection District, Mehlville Fire Protection District, Pacific Fire Protection District, and Valley Park Fire Protection District.
